Natural Origins & Characteristics of Akoya Pearls
Akoya pearls are cultured in saltwater oysters off the coast of Japan, famous for their perfect round shape due to the nucleation process, and brilliant lustre. Formed with layers of nacre, they develop a mirror-like shine, typically white or cream with subtle pink or silver overtones. Akoya pearls are celebrated for their stunning clarity and shape, making them a staple in jewellery collections.
Size Range
Akoya Pearls typically range from 6mm to 9mm in diameter, though some can be larger.
Cultivation time
Akoya pearls are cultivated in Akoya oysters, typically taking 10 months to 2 yearsto form.

Akoya Pearls at Cellini
At Cellini, Akoya Pearls are the perfect choice for both classic or more contemporary bespoke designs. Known for their lustre and near-perfect round shape, they add a classic touch to any piece. With sizes from 5mm to 9mm, they’re ideal for delicate designs that never go out of style. Whether you’re after a custom necklace or earrings, Akoya pearls offer both sophistication and versatility, making them the perfect choice.

In–House Pearl Stringing
At Cellini, we expertly string and restring pearls in-house, using traditional techniques and the finest materials. Pearls are strung on silk with hand-tied knots between each pearl if desired for a classic, lasting drape. For the best care of your jewellery, we recommend having it restrung every 1–2 years if worn frequently, or every 3–5 years if worn occasionally.
