Natural Origins & Characteristics of Tahitian & South Sea Pearls

Tahitian and South Sea pearls are both known for their size, beauty, and stunning lustre. Tahitian pearls, grown in pinctada margaritifera oyster in French Polynesia, standout with their deep, dark colours and unique metallic shine. South Sea pearls, produced in the largest pinctada maxima oyster in Australia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, are prized for their silky glow and range of colours, from creamy whites to rich golds.

Size Range

Both Tahitian and South Sea Pearls are known from their impressive size, starting at 8mm and ranging to 20mm.

Cultivation Process

Tahitian Pearls are cultivated in black-lipped oysters, and they typically take 2-3 years to form, whereas South Sea Pearls are cultivated in white-lipped oysters, and they usually take 3-5 years to form.
